Lorena Fox is a contemporary artist living and working in the foothills of Boulder, Colorado. She translates her trained knowledge of color and composition to acrylic painting and loves when a piece comes together in unexpected ways. Her colorful paintings are inspired by the beauty found in nature and the spirited animals that live among us.
Lorena’s process usually involves quick, intuitive strokes. The sessions can be intense and focused, full of raw energy and movement around the studio. She delights in getting a piece to a visual stopping point quickly, similar to wanting to know how a really good book is going to unfold. She also knows to step away to come back with a fresh eye. Lorena loves textures and the tactile quality of an original artwork. She uses a palette knife with a lot of paint, as well as larger brush strokes to create movement and depth.
Lorena loves outdoor adventures, including mountain biking, hiking, running, and skiing. This is an important part of her life and captures the joy she feels while outside into her paintings. As the artist explains, “This world is full of so much color and life. I strive to translate the essence of it. My goal is not to replicate it as the eye sees, but to abstract and stretch our preconceived notions of reality.” Her paintings are known for their energetic, vibrant, and dynamic style, often walking the line between abstract and impressionistic.
In addition to being an artist, Lorena has been a graphic designer, multimedia designer, and art director for 20 years, winning numerous local and national design awards. She currently owns and is creative director of Matika Studios, and also mentors other designers. Lorena studied Art & Design from the University of Montana before graduating with a degree in Graphic Design from North Carolina State University’s College of Design. She has also studied art in Barcelona, North Carolina, Minnesota, and Colorado.

The frame options offered on this site are a high quality, modern way to hang your artwork. Although most of Lorena’s pieces are painted around the edges and are ready to hang as-is, some paintings really make a beautiful statement set within a floating frame. Lorena has experimented with many different floating frames and these options are her preferred choice. Some floating frames have an inner ridge that is wider and even though they are called “floating” they don’t actually float in the same wonderful way as these. If you have questions about whether to frame a painting or not, or which color might be best, please reach out. Each painting has distinct colorings that lend to different framing choices.
Note that not all painting sizes have frame options. Also, only the .75″ depth canvases have a framing option.
